Mile High Sci Fi Will Slay You

Sharpen a stake, grab your pom-poms and join Mile High Sci Fi for its latest "comedic restoration" project: the film version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. See, while the television incarnation of Buffy transcended the outlandish premise of a cheerleader who's also the world's last, best hope against the vampiric menace to become a beloved genre classic, the movie version…not so much. "Buffy is one we've wanted to do for a long time, and a lot of people have been asking for it," says MHSF member Matt Vogl. "The whole concept of it is so ridiculous, it seems tailor-made for us. I don't think there's a person who's ever watched that movie who didn't make fun of it.”

So now, along with star Kristy Swanson's clichéd cheerleader and Donald Sutherland's surly and unlikable Merrick the Watcher, you'll get the finely tuned movie riffing of the Mile High Sci Fi crew to help make the pain go away. "The other thing that's cool about it is it's got Paul Reubens in it, and anytime you get him in a dark movie theater, something interesting happens," Vogl adds.

See it at 8 p.m. tonight and 7 or 9:30 p.m. tomorrow at Starz FilmCenter, in the Tivoli building on the Auraria campus. Tickets are $12 general admission or $10 for Denver Film Society members. For more information, visit www.milehighscifi.com or call 303-595-3456.
Fri., June 25, 8 p.m.; Sat., June 26, 7 & 9:30 p.m., 2010
