But on Monday nights, competing after dark puts a new spin on the pursuit. Beginning tonight, Echo will host the Under the Lights Race League from 7 to 9 p.m. weekly through March 19 (no competition will take place on Presidents' Day, February 20). And the important thing about it, notes Echo general manager Cindy Dady, is that it's a whole lot of fun.
"The best thing about our league is, number one, you don't need to have a team -- it's just you," Dady explains. "Sometimes, with ski leagues, if you have to count on five or six friends, you might not get the same level of participation. This way, it's just about you." You also don't have to make a commitment to the full eight weeks. Just the thing for what Dady calls a completely recreational league that comes equipped with free coaching from experts. "We have people who come in everything from jeans to GS suits, and they have so much fun cheering everyone on."
Under the Lights is open to skiers, boarders and telemarkers ages eighteen and up; registration, which takes place at the lodge at 6 p.m., is $40 nightly (lift ticket included) or $20 with an Echo Mountain season pass. For details, e-mail [email protected] or go to www.echomt.com.
Mondays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: Jan. 23. Continues through March 19, 2012
