The Merc, 2199 California Street, is a reincarnation of an original hipster hangout, harking back to the era of Kerouac and Beat poetry. And because the venue is authentic, you know the entertainment will be, too. Marilyn Megenity’s kitchen will serve dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., accompanied by classical and jazz musicians. The annual Erotic Poetry Festival (with tribal belly-dancing) will take place at 7 p.m.; a Jungle Room performance with local fiddle champion Katie Glassman starts at 10; at 10:45, local favorites DeVotchKa and Gregory Alan Isakov play together; and starting at 1:30 a.m., an all-night Swing Breakfast and Jungle Room dance party will kick off 2010 in style.
