This political season has been pushing buttons with everyone, which is reason enough for tonight's Oh, It's Just the Fate of the Republic Talk and Cocktail Reception. At 6:30 p.m., John Nichols, the insightful, erudite Washington correspondent for The Nation, will hit below the Beltway as he discusses the current campaign and the overall state of democracy; the free talk is in the B2 conference center of the Denver Central Library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway. And after Nichols is done pushing buttons, audience members can make some when Tran Wills, founder of the Fabric Lab, leads a crafty political project/reception slated to start at 8:30 p.m. at the Oval Office in the Curtis Hotel, 1401 Curtis Street. "At a public library, we don't have a lot of financial resources to bring in big names, but we can create events that entice them," explains Audrey Sprenger, who organized this program for the DPL's Fresh City Life and worked with Nichols when she was in graduate school. "When John speaks, it's like listening to the cool guy at the record counter. Even though he's a very serious political writer, he has a very strong sense of fun. And Tran is an entrepreneur, but she also has a political conscience." For more details, go to www.denverlibrary.org/fresh.
