The 26-year-old Chicken Lips comedy troupe is as busy as ever. This month marks the first time that the group’s members have performed an original show in the Avenue Theater since 2005, when they took it over. Free Gas: Chicken Lips Gives It to America, which opened last night and runs every Friday and Saturday through the end of August, features the new energy of song parodies and sketches based on current events, as well as the experience of “vintage” Chicken Lips performers, including LuAnn Buckstein, John Ashton and the founders of the group, Dave Johnson and Bob Wells. “One of my favorite parts is the game show,” says Johnson. “We’re going to give away gasoline cards and gift cards to Las Delicias.” Who can resist such a deal?

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the theater, 417 East 17th Avenue; tickets are $15 ($12 for students, seniors and groups). Call 303-321-5925 or go to www.avenuetheater.com.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Aug. 2. Continues through Aug. 30, 2008
