The first part, Punk Passage: California and Beyond: 1977-81, highlights rock photos by Ruby Ray, who was among the inventors of the punk aesthetic. Second is CPA's home-team response in Mining Denver's Underground Rock Photography, a group show organized by Cinthea Fiss.
"The show takes a broad look at the Denver music scene," explains Fiss. "I chose work by six photographers who approach the subject in varied ways and from different vantage points." Fiss selected pieces by John Schoenwalter, who's been associated with the Mercury Cafe for thirty years; Brenda LaBier, who's a backstage technician; and current scene-makers Jason Bye, Matt Mondragon and Spike. Finally, there's work by a photographer who goes by the outrageous name of Trip@PunkassPhotos, who first became involved as the dad of a teenage follower of the neo-punk world.
Both exhibits continue through May 12 at CPAC, 445 South Saulsbury Street in Lakewood. For more information, call 303-837-1341 or go to www.cpacphoto.org.
