Even though the first Denver Poets Day took place in 1976, today's installment is only the tenth version. "The first one was dedicated to Neal Cassady by many of the people who were friends with him," explains poet Ken Arkind. The day was resurrected in 1999 and has featured such notable poets as Allen Ginsberg, Thomas Hornsby Ferril, Anne Waldman and James Ryan Morris.

Stop by the Memorial Pavilion at Cheesman Park at Franklin Street and Eighth Avenue between noon and 8 p.m. to partake in a piece of ongoing history. "It's going to be an all-day event celebrating the Denver poetry scene," adds Arkind. Enjoy performances by Denver poet laureate Chris Ransick, members of the Denver Slam Team (aka the 2006 National Poetry Slam Champions), Jake Adam York, readers from Cafe Cultura and Cafe Nuba, and more. Bring a picnic and your love of rhyme and rhythm; attendance is free. E-mail Arkind at [email protected] for information.
Sat., July 7, 12-8 p.m.
