Ride the Line

If you've ridden the light rail, you've probably noticed the plethora of public art at the stations — unless you were wearing a paper bag over your head. And if you were just passing by one of the amazing sculptures, walls, windscreens or benches, you might have had the desire to learn more about them…but who has time to jump off the train at any given stop and peruse the public art at leisure?

Today starting at 10:45 a.m., a group of citizens and speakers will do just that during DU ART!'s Art-on-the-Line tour. Covering the new southeast spur of the light rail, the tour features on-site conversations with artists Susan Cooper, Ira Sherman and Carolyn Braaksma, as well as commentary by Gwen Chanzit, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Denver Art Museum. Participants will meet at the University of Denver light rail platform on Buchtel Boulevard at High Street and travel the line; a light rail pass and lunch at Flower Wraps is included in the $40 price tag. Proceeds from the event benefit DU ART!, which supports scholarships for students and an endowment for the school. Call 303-871-2846 to RSVP.
