Rock and Rollicking

It all began with Irish drinking songs. “I had learned all of these songs playing pubs in Europe,” explains musician Adam Goldstein. “When I came back from living abroad, I thought I would never find a place to do these songs in Denver, [but] somehow I did.” Goldstein is the man behind tonight’s Artistes Nouveaux, a 21st-century vaudeville presentation that will feature a wide array of performances, including a set of the singer’s own favorite old-time pub ballads.

The show will take place at the Aurora Fox Arts Center, a venue with a rich history of its own, one that Goldstein says offers the perfect setting for this modern take on old-fashioned entertainment. The performers — which include campy host Naughty Pierre, magician and mentalist Professor Phelyx and world-renowned burlesque queen Orchid Mei, among others — are often seen at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret. Also a regular act at Lannie’s, Goldstein saw an opportunity to bring this talented group to the other side of town for a special show that takes its cues from the traveling vaudeville extravaganzas of the past.

The one-time-only presentation of Artistes Nouveaux happens tonight at 8 p.m. at the Aurora Fox, 9900 East Colfax Avenue in Aurora. Tickets are $20 to $24, with discount options for groups. The show contains adult content and is recommended for those eighteen and up. Visit aurorafoxartscenter.org for more information.
