Role With It

It shouldn’t be hard to convince the geek in your life to go see Knights of Badassdom, an action-comedy movie about LARP (live action role-playing) enthusiasts who accidentally summon a real demon. If you’re not already sold on the description alone, get this: It stars a rogue’s gallery of nerd-dom’s finest, including Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Danny Pudi (Community) and more. If the movie itself isn’t enough, then how about the four real-world LARP groups that will be in attendance to talk about their hobby, a costume contest and a post-film performance by the party-funk band Rowdy Shadehouse?

“Even though I’m not necessarily interested in LARPing, we can all kind of learn from each other,” says Morgan Dunmire, the event’s host. “I have my own type of nerd and geek hobbies, and my friends think I’m lame for it, but I love the opportunity to talk about my hobby and talk to others about theirs. It’s like a safe zone.”

The evening starts at 7 p.m. at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, with a meet-and-greet with the LARPers and the costume contest. The movie starts at 8 p.m., with Rowdy Shadehouse closing out the night. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $14 at the door. For more info, visit tiny.cc/koboriental.
