This is either great -- or terrifying -- news: A Sex and the City movie is happening, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis all participating. Variety is reporting that the squabbles of a few years ago -- when Cattrall wanted the same money and power as the higher paid Parker -- have been smoothed over and everyone's ready to shoot.
Seems great, no? Well, Cat would suggest that our fave foursome is ready to set aside the cat fighting because their personal projects haven't served them well. Sarah J's "Bitten" line getting trashed by everyone, and Failure to Launch and Family Stone, well, failed to launch. Cattrall's Sexual Intelligence wasn't so smart, and her turn in the sweet Ice Princess wasn't exactly Samantha worthy. And Nixon's and Davis's IMDB profiles are sadly lacking any interesting post-Sex big screen projects. (Though props to Nixon for her turn on Broadway in The Women; she was excellent.)
So, they're all needing yet another hit. And we all know what happens when you're desperately trying to cling to the old magic. See: The Sopranos and Aaron Sorkin's cancelled Studio 60. Have they waited so long we just won't care about Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda? Do we really want to know what’s happening in their lives now that they’re coupled off, have brownstones in Brooklyn and are approaching the other side of forty?
