Breck local goes big: French skier Kevin Rolland and Canadian skier Justin Dorey took the top two podium spots in the Men's Freeski Superpipe finals, but the biggest applause went to Duncan Adams, who grew up in Breckenridge and is now a student at the Colorado Mountain College. Adams' switch 1080 on his final hit helped put him on the podium, just ahead of Gus Kenworthy, from Telluride. Torin Yater-Wallace, from Basalt, took sixth.
Going off the rails: Tom Wallisch ruled the Slopestyle finals on Sunday (see video above), beating out Nick Goepper and Alexis Godbout. Kenworthy finished fourth. The ladies had to sit this one out: Women's Slopestyle is only being featured at two of the three Winter Dew Tour events this season, an action sports ice ceiling we can't wait to see smashed.
O'Brien's back: Spencer O'Brien, who missed last year's Dew Tour event at Breckenridge due to an injured shoulder, won the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle finals, ahead of Finnish rider Enni Rukajärvi and Czech rider Sarka Pancochova. The biggest news? Perennial favorite Jamie Anderson finished way down in fifth.
Double corks galore: And, last but certainly not least, the Men's Snowboard Slopestyle finals were full of fireworks, with Norwegian rider Gjermund Braaten on top. His winning run -- switch backside tailgrab 270, Cab boardslide front board to fakie, switch backside double cork 1080, Cab double cork 900, frontside 180 switch wallride to switch backside 180 off, backside double cork 1080, frontside double cork 1080 -- showed just how far Slopestyle has come as the sport prepares for its Olympic debut in Sochi, Russia in 2014. Braaten beat out Canadian riders Sebastian Toutant and Charles Reid for the win. Breck local Eric Willett, the top finishing rider from Colorado, ended up in ninth place.
