In a sports-mad city like Denver, it’s easy to make friends — and enemies — at any sports bar: Just sit down and make a statement about the best, worst or most ridiculous coach, player or call to the guy next to you, and you’re off. Now Denver sports fans have plenty of new grist for the mill with the release of The Great Book of Denver Sports Lists, by longtime Denver talk-radio personalities Joe Williams and Irv Brown, with contributions by everyone from Mayor John Hickenlooper to Westword’s own Adam Cayton-Holland. Alongside the obvious lists covering Denver’s hallowed big franchises are plenty of more obscure lists chronicling such categories as runners, boxers and Denver fans’ favorite sports movies, all of which make great starting points for your next obsessive discussion over beer and hot wings. “It will provoke a lot of arguments and thought. That’s all talk radio is, a lot of thought,” says Brown. “I’m not sure it will solve anything. It’s my opinion against yours.”

Get your arguments started tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street, where Williams and Brown will discuss and sign copies of the book. Call 303-436-1070 or visit www.tatteredcover.com for more info.
