Stacking the Odds

Many adults in Denver, including Snooze owner/manager Jon Schlegel, fondly remember attending the Parade of Lights, a tradition for the last 35 years, when they were kids. So when Schlegel, whose famous Ballpark neighborhood breakfast eatery draws huge crowds every weekend (and spawned a sibling this summer on Colorado Boulevard), caught word that the event’s future could be in jeopardy, he decided to do something to help save it. And so the original Snooze and the second location will be celebrating Snooze's Make a Wish Pancake Day today during regular business hours.

“It’s a cool cause, so we came up with a cool way to support the Parade of Lights,” Schlegel says. “We’re having a pancakes and parades day, with the tickets for all the ’cakes we serve going to benefit the Parade of Lights.” To that end, both Snoozes will offer a “sushi-style menu,” featuring the most popular new menu items along with some old favorites. Among the comeback ’cakes: the Reese’s Pieces pancake and, by popular demand, the Caramel Cinnamon Roll version. Mmmm. Caramel Cinnamon Roll Pancake....

Eat, drink and be charitable today from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at either Snooze, 2262 Larimer Street (303-297-0700) or 700 Colorado Boulevard (303-736-6200). Get more info at www.snoozedenver.com.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
