Stand and Deliver

Improvisational comedy is a risky business — both for the performers, who must create art on the spot, and the audiences, who some-times must suffer through skits that fall flat. But that won’t be a concern when the Upright Citizen’s Brigade brings its zany antics to town tonight.

The UCB’s list of performers and alumni is massive, and the Denver shows will feature two relative newcomers on the scene, Alex Berg and Alex Fernie, both part of UCB’s Los Angeles division. Although you might not recognize their names, the two were hand-picked from the best improv comedians in New York and Los Angeles. “Nothing is pre-ordained, but these guys have been performing together for years,” says director and coordinating producer Carter Edwards, “and of course nothing is rehearsed.” Despite improvisation’s inherent lack of planning, audiences can definitely plan on seeing an hour and a half of witty, spontaneous comedy.

The show starts at 8 p.m. at Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa Street; tickets are $22.50. Improvisation classes will also be offered at the theater today and tomorrow, at $85 per class. For more information, go to www.bovinemetropolis.com or call 303-758-4722.
