Observing the work of Mexican artist Gustavo Artigas is sort of like taking in reality TV. We watch intently, not without schadenfreude, to see how our fellow man reacts to diverse situations. The difference? There are no cockroaches, catfights or cash prizes involved…and Artigas’s work might just teach you a thing or two about anthropology. Artigas, who uses a unique combination of installation and performance art to examine and identify human behaviors, is the guest at the Museo de las Américas’ Conversation>Contacto lecture series. During “Antagonistic Aesthetics,” the artist will discuss his analyses of the social tensions humans develop when faced with unusual situations in public.

The lecture begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Museo, 861 Santa Fe Drive. The cost is $3 for members and $5 general admission; all ages are welcome. For more information, call 303-571-4401, email [email protected] or visit www.museo.org.
Tue., Aug. 26, 6 p.m., 2008
