Stretching Out

The Wellness Initiative has already raised more than $10,000 via today’s Yogathon, in which teens and adults will complete as many (or as few) of 108 sun salutations as they can with the help of five certified yogis. “We were just trying to think of what we could do that would be a fun, big, community-building and fundraising event,” says the Wellness Initiative’s Mara Rose, “and rather than going the more traditional route of the evening gala, we thought this would be more appropriate.”

The Yogathon kicks off at 1 p.m. at Boulder High School, 1604 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. “We’ll have massage chairs in the back if people need a break,” Rose promises. There will also be a dedicated children’s room for kids ages five to twelve, where they can go on a Yoga Safari through games, crafts, stories, music and more.

Registration for the Yogathon is $20; you can sign up online or at the door (where registration opens at 12:30 p.m.). The Wellness Initiative also asks that participants collect up to $108 in pledges. That said, “We don’t want anyone to miss this opportunity,” Rose emphasizes. “If they can get the pledges, it would be fantastic, but this is as much about building community as fundraising. We’re just excited to have a room packed full of people participating.”
