A Taste of Colorado is all about the rattlesnake brats this year -- and pulled wild-boar sandwiches, curried goat, beet burgers and chocolate-covered bacon. "We've always been known for representing unusual foods, and now we're seeing more game," says Susan Kark of the Downtown Denver Partnership, which is hosting the 29th annual end-of-summer food festival.

But the fair celebrates an array of other foods, too, along with emerging trends in what local restaurants are serving. And then there’s the massive pop-up marketplace, with dozens of merchant booths and kitchen-, education- and nature-oriented demonstrations, plus six stages of live music: This year’s entertainment includes traditional Bavarian folk music, the Pointer Sisters, Lou Gramm, the Spin Doctors and G. Love & Special Sauce. There will also be carnival rides, magicians and storytelling for the kids, and a new zip line for adults to complement the popular bungee jump and human hamster balls.

A Taste of Colorado begins today at 11:30 a.m. at Civic Center Park, at Colfax and Broadway, and runs through September 3. The event is free and open to all ages. For more information on participating vendors and a full list of the weekend's entertainment, visit www.atasteofcolorado.com.
