"I'll be presenting the Sazerac as an exemplary cocktail whose ingredients are all American and tell great American stories: rye whiskey; Herbsaint, an American absinthe; Peychaud's bitters, an early American so-called medicine; sugar and lemon," says York. "Once you know that the cocktail was invented in America and that the word itself is an Americanization of a French word, you might feel patriotic drinking a cocktail. I'm just trying to get people ready for the Fourth of July."
Mixed Taste: Irrational Engineering & the Birth of the Cocktail takes place at 6:30 p.m. at MCA Denver, 1485 Delgany Street. Admission is $17, $12 for museum members. For tickets and info on the full series, call 303-298-7554 or visit www.mcadenver.org.
