Tails of the Painted Cats: A sneak-peek photo preview before you bid

The Cat Care Society's Tails of the Painted Cats fundraiser has proven so popular that it's become an annual event: Each year, the fanciful fiberglass felines decorated by local artists make the rounds to different galleries and art districts before winding up at a gala auction at the end of July. (This year's culminating Painted Cats Gala is July 20 at the Pinehurst Country Club). In the meantime, there's one last stop where you can ogle the cute kittehs in person: The Festival of Felines, a June 29 open house and facility tour at the Cat Care Society no-kill shelter.

KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
