Taste Treats

What do the great escapist Houdini and the scientific phenomenon of déjà vu have in common? How about sinkholes and wormholes? Or refrigeration and the Austrian avant-garde? All are topics teamed up for this season’s Mixed Taste series, opening tonight at the MCA Denver. Now in its ninth year, the twelve-week tag-team lecture series encourages visitors to listen, learn and ask questions of the carefully chosen experts in these engaging pairings.

“This year, we wanted to do something that was a little bit different — we wanted to create programs that might seem like they ought to be related but may not have anything to do with each other at all,” says MCA programming director Sarah Kate Baie. A prime example is a July pairing of fiscal cliffs and cliff diving — which will bring the first-ever conversation on economics to Mixed Taste, along with cliff divers from Denver’s famed Casa Bonita restaurant.

Mixed Taste takes place at the MCA, 1485 Delgany Street; tonight’s pairing is Refrigeration and the Austrian Avant Garde. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the talk begins at 6:30. Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members; a season pass runs $165. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit mcadenver.org or call 303-298-7554.
Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. Starts: June 6. Continues through Aug. 29, 2013
