Black Sheep Friday: Pop Tart Art

It's always fun to kick off the weekend off at MCA Denver, especially when you get to decorate pop tarts. Tonight you can explore the museum, then head to the roof to grab a drink and play with all the supplies you need to jazz up the jelly-filled pastries. Yum, yum — here we come!
Family Screening: A Muppet Christmas Carol

Start your morning off at the hot-chocolate bar, so that you can enjoy the magic of the Muppets holiday special with a mugful. After the movie, head to the lounge to decorate ornaments. Tickets are only $5, and the event is free for kids under six.
Krampus Craft Fair and KrampusFest
Mutiny Information Cafe
11 a.m. Saturday, free
Do a little shopping and partying in the name of Krampus, the punisher of bad children. Mutiny Information Cafe will be full of items from local silversmiths, leather crafters, vintage clothiers and more; around 6 p.m., the giant puppets, carnival games and live music will kick in. Eat, drink and be scary!
Winter Fest
Fillmore Plaza

Bring the family down to Cherry Creek North to experience an all-out winter wonderland. In the inaugural Winter Fest, Fillmore Plaza will come alive with ice sculptures, carolers, fire pits, holiday treats and much more. Enjoy live music as you wander through streets lined with businesses, some even local. This is a brand-new event, so help make it as merry as possible.
Grand Opening: Akihabara Arcade and Bar

4 p.m. Saturday, free
Downtown Westminster is going through a real revitalization, and the addition of places like this are really fueling the fire. Billed as a spot for true gamers, Akihabara Arcade and Bar offers upwards of twenty imported Japanese games and a giant version of the Classic Nintendo Entertainment System. Since the space celebrates the tradition of the Akihabara neighborhood in Tokyo, Ramune soda and Sapporo will be available at the grand opening. But space is tight, so RSVP on Facebook if you want to game.

80s Ski Party with Level 1 Film Premiere
Alpine Dog Brewing

Gear up in all the neon you can find, then hot-dog your way through this radical throwback party. While you sip on those bitchin' Alpine Dog brews, feast your eyes on the newest ski film from Level 1, Pleasure. The company will be giving out prizes for the gnarliest costumes, so don't hold back.
SPELLS
The Overland
9 p.m. Saturday, free
These dudes rock all year long, and tonight they would like to say thank you to their fans by kicking out the jams for free. Stop by the Overland to sip some of that Utica Club while enjoying tracks from SPELLS along with Sophisticated Boom Boom and Friends of Cesar Romero.
Heavy Metal Flea Market

Krampus is kind of dark, but it gets no darker than heavy metal. Come to Black Sky to grab some gifts for the folks on your list who wear all black: Slayer-inspired T-shirts, records and all kinds of other goods. Worship the sounds of When Darkness Falls and Slingfist as they crank up the volume a little later in the day.
Binge Watch Live Improv Mixer
Mutiny Information Cafe
6:30 p.m. Sunday, free
The Binge Watch Live improv show is always a hit, but no matter your skill level, tonight you get to join in the fun of saying, "Yes, and..." All groups will be mixed up with beginner and veteran improvers, to create an evening of on-the-spot entertainment. Improvise a new hobby to carry over into the new year.
A Celebration of Leonard Cohen
hi-dive
7 p.m. Sunday, $10
We said goodbye to many masters of melody this year, and tonight the hi-dive will celebrate the life of Leonard Cohen. Join local musicians Aaron Collins, Maria Kohler, Claudine Rousseau and many more for an evening of tribute. The man is gone, but the spirit will never be forgotten.
