"We liked the idea of making a mash-up for this event: a comic-book festival meets artwalk to create a comic artwalk," says Charlie LaGreca, one of the directors of Denver Comic Con. The work of local cartoonists, artists, writers and other talent will be displayed on eighteen tables. "It's a celebration of the Colorado art and comics scene before our main event, June 14-17, at the Convention Center," adds LaGreca.
Tonight's event features work in multiple genres, including indie, horror, superheroes, humor and manga, as well as a display of unusual props created from the comics pages, such as Aquaman's trident.
Breckenridge Brewery will provide beverages, while live music from bands like Little Fyodor and DJ/producers the Blackout Beat will keep the crowd moving. Door prizes and other activities will make this a true feast for the art geek.
Wazee Union is at 3501 Wazee Street. The event is free, open to all ages, and lasts from 7 to 11 p.m. For more information, go to www.thespacecreators.com.
