The Doctor Is In

Now and again, Time Lords need to regenerate. That means a new form, complete with a new set of quirks and, in practical terms, a new actor as the good Doctor. That time has come around again, and the Doctor Who Series 8 Premiere will feature Peter Capaldi as the twelfth Doctor, ready to save the universe from all manner of threats from across space and time.

“People are excited for this. This is the fourth Doctor since they rebooted the series — the series goes all the way back to ’63 — and what’s great is that they all put their own spin on the character,” notes Ernie Quiroz, programming manager for the Denver Film Society. “It will be interesting to see this take on the Doctor.”

Tonight at the Sie FilmCenter, fans old and new — there’s no better time to jump in than when there’s a new Doctor — can enjoy the initial episode in the company of their fellow fanatics while showing off their Doctor Who cosplay and trivia knowledge in pursuit of fabulous prizes and serious geek cred. “We definitely want people to dress up and have fun,” Quiroz says. “Brush up on your trivia!”

The evening begins at 6 p.m. at the Sie, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Admission is free, but seating is limited, so arrive early to ensure a seat. For more information, visit denverfilm.org — and for those who can’t make it, Doctor Who will also air tonight on BBC America.
