Wicked, author Gregory Maguire’s series based on The Wizard of Oz, will conclude with the release of Out of Oz. The five-book series, which started with Wicked and spawned a Broadway musical of the same name, has found numerous fans along the way, and the finale should help answer any of their remaining questions.

In a blog post announcing the new book, Maguire summed up his process: “Yes, I have a destination, I have a sense of how the book, and the series, must end. The novel opens — this is all I will say — with Glinda Upland under house arrest.” If you’ll recall, the fourth book left things in a bit of a ruin, with Munchkinland invaded and the poor Cowardly Lion on the run from the law. Oz itself is wracked by civil war, and everything is in complete chaos.

How will it all turn out? Ask Maguire himself when he appears at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street, to talk about the series and sign copies of Out of Oz. For more information, go to www.tatteredcover.com or call 303-436-1070
