The World’s Game

Recognizing the diversity of cultures united by soccer, the Colorado Rapids will host eight different heritage nights throughout this season. “Previous nights have included Celtic Night and Asian-Pacific Night,” says marketing coordinator Chris Greenley. “Each heritage night targets different members of our team in order to celebrate our players and the culture and heritage that they represent.”

The theme for this evening, when the Rapids host Chivas USA, is Hispanic Heritage Night, focusing on Argentine player Facundo Diz. Related activities include distribution of a poster and informational handout, a Soccer Dreams Without Borders parade, a Latin American Education Fund scholarship presentation and a Hispanic Heroes tribute that recognizes everyday heroes — such as teachers and police officers — who improve the Hispanic community. “Our marketing theme is ‘Experience the World’s Game.’ Under that umbrella, we like to showcase different cultures, especially as they relate to the players,” says Greenley. “It’s a way to get the fans closer to the players.”

The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, 6000 Victory Way in Commerce City; tickets range from $17 to $200. For more information, go to or call 303-727-3500.
