Get dirty! Head to Fruita for the 16th annual New Belgium Brewing Fruita Fat Tire Festival this weekend, where organizers have dropped most of the pretense in favor of letting people go ride during the day and then party all night. Don't miss the Clunker Crit junker race on Saturday at 2 p.m.
After the jump: Four more activities more fun than running circles around a maypole...
Pay it forward! The 10th annual Corn Harvest party at Loveland on Saturday benefits the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, and many locals have come to see the $60 ticket price ($30 if you don't need a lift ticket) as an investment in the karmic bank for next season's backcountry adventures. Registration is in the Upper Lodge starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by mountain tours and lunch at the base area. New Belgium Brewing will be tapping the kegs at 3 p.m., just in time for the 3:30 p.m. gear raffle. What goes up must come down! Arapahoe Basin's Black Mountain Express won Best New Ski Lift honors in our 2011 Best of Denver special issue, but you won't be needing it on Saturday for the 9th annual Marmot Grind uphill/downhill randonee race ($25), which starts at 8 a.m. and covers about 2,000 vertical feet, with $2,000 in prizes on the line. Did somebody say bash? The Denver-based Cottonwood Institute ("Changing the world one adventure at a time!") connects diverse youth to the outdoors through adventure programs and action projects; Saturday night's 6th annual Basecamp Bash at Gallery 1261, 1261 Delaware Street ($50), is more about plying diverse donors with drinks from Wynkoop Brewing Company, Mondo Vino and Leopold Brothers to get them in the proper spirit to throw down for an epic silent auction benefiting those awesome programs. Raising up the next generation of Today in Stoke readers? A worthy cause if ever there was one. Go long! April showers bring... May marathons? The 10th annual Colorado Marathon is off to the races in Old Town Fort Collins on Sunday at 6:15 a.m., with full marathon, half marathon, 10K ($40), 5K ($35) and Kids Run options. The marathon and half marathon races already filled up months ago, so you have a perfect excuse to go for the wimpier distances without being ridiculed by the hardcore. There's no race day registration, so get on it at TheColoradoMarathon.com.
