Arapahoe Basin is not only still open (one of just two Colorado ski areas still going strong), it's 100 percent open and yesterday reported a 100" base, its deepest base since 2003, according to spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer, who says she and her colleagues decided to take the opportunity to celebrate Locals Day today.
"The current storm has dropped 7" of snow in the last 24 hours and 15" in the last three days," Hierholzer noted yesterday. "More snow is expected in the forecast."
Locals Day celebrations today include Big Hit and Air & Style competitions with cash prizes in the Treeline Terrain Park, lunch specials at Black Mountain Lodge, Tech Nine gear demos, an on-mountain scavenger hunt presented by KSMT The Mountain and a beach volleyball tournament at the base area "beach."
