Getting ready to hit opening day tomorrow at Copper Mountain or Keystone? Stop by the Retro Room tonight, 2034 Larimer Street, for a Pre-Shred Kickoff Party and a raffle to benefit Burton Snowboards' non-profit Chill Foundation. The Chill program partners with local non-profits serving at-risk and under-served youth each year to bring more than 170 local teens to the hill for a six-week course in the lessons in patience, persistence, responsibility, courage, respect, and pride that come with learning to ride (click through to make a donation, volunteer, or otherwise get involved). The Pre-Shred party is sponsored by Burton Snowboards, Echo Mountain (they'll be screening the Echo Mountain team video Echodemic Volume 3, sneak peek after the jump) and InkMonstr, and the raffle prizes include snowboards, bindings, hoodies, t-shirts and lift tickets.

Doors at 7 p.m., raffle at 9 p.m. -- Raffle tickets are 2 for $5, or 5 for $10. Pre-Shred drink specials all night -- sorry, kids, it's 21 and up.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
