Still haven't used all your sick days this season? Not quite ready to shift from ski/snowboard season to working in your garden? Here are three perfectly good excuses to call in sick and head for the hills this week:
1. The 22nd annual Enduro race today at Arapahoe Basin, in which the hardcore battle it out to see who can take the most laps under the Pali chair (the record stands at 71) and come out standing. Registration is full, but head up anyways for the après-ski bash at 5:30 p.m., which features a silent auction to benefit the Leif Borgeson Memorial Fund, in honor of the A-Basin ski patroller who died in February while hiking the ridge at the Aspen Highlands Bowl.
2. Beaver Creek's annual Malay Day snowboard contest is tomorrow, with $20 registration from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., rail jam at 11:30 a.m., big air at 1 p.m. and "freestyle bronanza" at 2 p.m. Check the after-party at Finnegan's for a silent auction of Josh Malay's artwork to benefit the Josh Malay Memorial Fund. The Beaver Creek local died in 2004 during a photo shoot in the Pyrenees Mountains.
3. Breckenridge's 5 'til 5 Terrain Park Happy Hour (Thursdays in April) keeps Chair 5 running for the rippers until 5 p.m. for laps in the Park Lane and Freeway terrain parks. Bring a video camera: Prizes for the 5 'til 5 video contest include an Epic Pass for next season.
