Curious about how to perfectly prune your bonsai? Ever wonder what it takes to make a taiko drum? Japan America Society of Colorado will have the answers to those questions and many more at today’s Harvest Moon Festival, a seasonal gathering celebrating Japanese culture and traditions. Along with information sessions on plants and percussion, the event will feature booths by local kimono, antique and anime retailers, a fashion show, and appearances by local Gothic Lolitas in full-on frilly regalia.

“We want to give people a chance to experience a myriad of Japanese culture, old and new,” says Dilek Eccles, executive director of JAS of Colorado. The Harvest Moon Festival will run from 1 to 8 p.m., with Pacific Mercantile selling refreshments throughout the day; the Taiko Society of Colorado Springs will hold a live drumming performance to close out the festivities.
