The shift happens so fast, it's nearly imperceptible, but that won't last for long -- Halloween's over, and the holiday shopping season is on. Shopping handmade and local is the trend, and we've made it a little easier for you to navigate the best of the markets, sales and small business-friendly gift-buying options that proliferate after Daylight Savings Time ends. Keep reading for the first round, which we've updated from last week to include more November markets. And no worries if you're a procrastinator -- more to come in December.

Fancy Made Fancy Tiger 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 14 Free

You might not know that the folks who work in the boutique side of Fancy Tiger on Broadway are also artisans and designers who help keep the clothing shop stocked with quality, one-of-a-kind accessories they've made themselves. Stop by Fancy Made to discover what they've been up to at this one-night showcase of soy candles and hand-screened tees by store owner Matthew Brown, jewelry and bags by Sale Hale Brown, jewelry by Nathan Hall, miniatures and home decor by Becky Wareing Steele and handmade scarf designer Kate Wingrove.

Holiday Market Show Zip 37 Gallery November 14 through 30 Opening reception: 6 to 10 p.m. November 14 Free

The focus is on affordable art at Zip's annual holiday show, featuring original artwork from fifteen-plus co-op members. Art makes a wonderful and personalized gift -- here's the place to find it. Zip 37 is open Friday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

L'Esprit de Noël Holiday Home Tour and Boutique Glenmoor Country Club Tour: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 14 and 15 Boutique: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. November 22 and 23 $23-$25 tour. Boutique free.

The L'Esprit boutique might be a side trip for folks on this walking tour of five tony homes in the Glenmoor Country Club Neighborhood, all decorated to the rafters for the holidays, to benefit the Central City Opera. But if you just want to see what goodies and gifties they're selling, stop by the Glenmoor Country Club, where the admission is free for browsers, with lunch and afternoon tea available.

Holiday Artisan Show Country Fair Garden Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 15 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 16 Free

While you're perusing the greenhouses at Country Fair for holiday poinsettias and other seasonal houseplants for decorating, seven local artisans will set up shop on the sidelines, offering handcrafted gift items and more.

Denver Botanic Gardens Holiday Sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 14 and 15 Denver Botanic Gardens Free.

This annual sale at the Denver Botanic Garden is tried-and-true, featuring fifty or more vendors, including fine weavers and jewelry-makers. It's also the best opportunity to pick up the gourmet vinegars, herb blends and soaps made by members of the DBG Guild using plants grown at the gardens. Shell out $15 for the preview, and you'll get a party and first pick.

ArtDenver Colorado Convention Center 6 to 10 p.m. November 14 11 a.m. to 7 p.m November 15 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 16 $12 in advance and $15 at the door (two- and three-day pass packages and VIP pricing also available)

New this year, ArtDenver is brought to you by the folks who put on the acclaimed Cherry Creek Arts Festival each summer. Expect an event that's big, sophisticated, fashionable and high-end artsy -- just like the summer fest, only indoors. It all kicks off with a splashy salute to high fashion with featured designers Michael Costello, Mondo Guerra, Justin LeBlanc and Geoffrey Mac, along with a slew of local designers manning vendor booths.

Boulder Winter Craft Fair Ozo Coffee Co., Boulder 6 to 9 p.m. November 14 Free 303-440-0233

On a smaller scale, a gang of local vendors will be selling handmade goods, crafts and clothing at Boulder's Ozo Coffee for one night only at this event, meaning you can shop with a stellar cuppa joe in hand. A percentage of all sales will benefit the Emergency Family Assistance Association and the Boulder Humane Society.

The Junior League of Denver puts on this big three-day craft and gift fair that's laden with one-of-a-kind sweaters, bags and hats, jewelry and accessories, housewares and gourmet foods. Always worth a wander.

Foothills Art Center Holiday Art Market 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and noon-5 Sundays, November 15 through December 28 (closed on holidays) Foothills Art Center, Golden Free

Another long-running show, the Foothills marketplace is sprawling and loaded with handmades both affordable and pricey, all created in Colorado with loving care by more than 100 artists. If you can't find anything here, you're not looking hard enough!

Deck the Mall 16th Street Mall 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 22 Free

Colorado Events hosts this open-air craft market that will overflow with gifts and one-of-a-kind seasonal holiday items in a jolly urban setting. When's the last time you took a stroll down the 16th Street Mall -- without zombie makeup? Experience the city in a new light.

EvB Studio Holiday Sale 2 to 7 p.m. November 20 and 21 Noon to 5 p.m. November 23 and 24 EvB Studio Free

Ceramic artist Marie Gibbons is a Tennyson Street mainstay in her tiny studio next to the Oriental Theater, where she hosts clay workshops and First Friday mini-shops all year long. She's also been hard at work creating holiday-worthy work, from whimsical figures to beautifully textured hamsa hands that ward off evil when hung in your home, and this is your chance to pick up an original or a holiday bargain, straight from the artist's loving hands.

Goldyn will ship a little bit of Boulder to Denver for the Cedar & Hyde Holiday Pop-Up Shop, which features curiosities, wares and wearables from the Boulder boutique.

Mercado de Navidad Museo de las Americas 5 to 8 p.m. November 21 $3-$5

The Museo will open its doors for a one-night holiday mercado showcasing Colorado-made and ethnic folkloric art and craft items. Add to this giftable wonderland a bar with cocktails by Suerte Tequila, and you've got a function with a function. Salud!

Winter Session Pop-Up Super Ordinary November 21 through December 6 Opening reception: 6 to 9 p.m. November 21 Free

Super Ordinary invites local design studio Winter Session over for the holidays this season for an in-store showcase of the husband-and-wife team's handsome handcrafted bags. Not just a sale of of their sleek and modern goods, the display will recreate the workshop atmosphere with an exhibit of prototypes, works-in-progress and sketches that are all part of the final product's creation.

Broken Shovels Farm Thanksgiving Market Broken Shovels Farm, Henderson 1-3 p.m. November 23 Free

This rural side trip yields goodies to sample and buy, including small-batch holiday-worthy artisan goat cheeses and yogurt and homemade jams, as well as rich truffles, vegan/vegetarian products and baked goods, all on an old-fashioned working goat farm. Afraid of the cold? They'll be grilling cheese and jam sandwiches over a wood fire, too. Bring the family and meet the kids.

Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods gets into the Black Friday fray with a laid-back evening alternative that spills into Small Business Saturday. 25 local vendors will fill CHUN's headquarters in the beautiful old Tears-McFarlane House on the edge of Cheesman Park with jewelry, knitted goods, art prints and more, hosted by Moon(lab). Festivities will include raffles, pizza and a limited bar; proceeds from these extras will benefit the MaxFund no-kill animal shelter.

Shop Small, Source Small Saturday Pandora on the Hill 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. November 29

Pandora celebrates shopping local on Small Business Saturday with a Crow Jane Jewelry trunk show. For every Crow Jane item you buy, both the artisan and the store will each kick in ten percent of the purchase toward a donation to the MaxFund animal shelter. Need any further incentive? Giveaways galore and a festive atmosphere, courtesy of Pandora, will sweep away you r holiday-shopping jitters. Think big, shop small.

Arvada Center Holiday Craft Fair 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 28 and 29 Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Arvada $5 entry per day (free for patrons attending theater productions and "Friends of the Center")

The first of two annual holiday shows at the Arvada Center, the Holiday Craft Fair is quick and big (150 artists are featured). But the center likes to brag that its craft shown is a stress-free breeze for buyers, far from the madding crowd. It also helps that the selection is thoughtfully juried, so you can't go wrong, whatever you pick.

Small Business Saturday Artisan Market 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 29 Wazee Union Free

Down in RiNo by the railroad tracks, Wazee Union is a little off the beaten track, but as a thriving community of artists and small creative businesses, the warehouse and its maze of studios is well worth checking out. Artisans from inside and outside alike will be hawking their wares at this one-day open-entry market, and you can feel good about patronizing the market to support National Small Business Saturday. It's the new Black Friday, without the unpleasant hassle.

Tennyson Street Small Business Saturday Passport Crawl Tennyson Street Business District 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. November 29 Some deals offered through December 6

Participating businesses up and down Tennyson Street from 38th to 46th avenues will celebrate Small Business Saturday with temporary deals and even freebies. For added incentive, pick up a passport to be stamped at every store you frequent, and be automatically entered in a drawing to win a street-wide gift basket. Turn in passports at Jolly Goods by December 6 to be eligible.

Downtown Littleton Elf Crawl Downtown Littleton 7 to 10 p.m. November 29 Tickets: $20

The merchants of Downtown Littleton invite you to shop the eclectic street on Small Business Saturday, but then you can kick back afterward at local eateries and drinkeries on the costumes-encouraged Elf Crawl. $20 gets you free drinks, commemorative cup and an elf hat, something you'll surely need as the holiday season progresses. Advance reservations are a must.

GTP Annual Holiday Art Sale Good Thieves Press 5 to 10 p.m. November 29 1 to 6 p.m. December 6, 13 and 20 Free

Good Thieves Press, the little collective that could, opens its doors for a holiday sale of artwork, hand-screened t-shirts, handmade sketchbooks, jewelry and other artful gift items. The emphasis is on the affordable here, and the atmosphere is homey and friendly.

Firefly Handmade Holiday Market Watershed School 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. November 29 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 30 Tickets: $3, kids ages 12 and under free

Boulder's Firefly is a powerhouse of a craft market, with nearly 100 artisans hawking handmade everything. And this tight ship makes certain that its guests a well-looked-after, with a Kids Creation Station to keep the little ones busy, a gift-wrap station, food trucks for eats and even adult beverages. Can't make it to Boulder? This year, Firefly is coming to Denver, too, on the first weekend in December.
