Two Sketchy Guys

The comedy duo of Frank Caeti and Matthew Craig have big plans for FrankenMatt, their live, sketch-based show — specifically, “domination of the entertainment industry,” says Caeti. “If we could, we’d like to have Raven Simone-type success. Not only television shows, but sell backpacks and lunchboxes to little girls, all of that.”

“My goal is to put on a wig and have that take over my life, like Hannah Montana,” adds Craig.

They’ve got the material to do it. The sketches are built out of the duo’s years of experience in improv comedy; they met and got their start as members of the famed Second City troupe. FrankenMatt itself started life as an improv show, with the best material from that being turned into dozens of sketches, then the best of those sketches being honed to a fine, farcical edge. “It has the energy of an improvised show, but we’re really familiar with where we’re going with it,” says Craig. “It’s fast, funny, and fun to perform.”

Catch the show tonight or tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Avenue Theater, 417 East 17th Avenue; for tickets, $15, and additional info, visit www.avenuetheater.com or call 303-321-5925.
