Very Young Girls

Tonight at Bindery|space, the at-risk-youth outreach organization Prax(us) will screen Very Young Girls, a film documenting the lives of teenage girls who have fallen victim to forced domestic labor and sex trafficking -- with the result often being that they are tried in criminal court as adults for prostitution. The Denver-based organization is one of a handful of groups working to actively end human trafficking in the United States, an epidemic often considered purely an international issue.

“The film shows the complexity of these situations for girls,” says Prax(us) director of programs Stephanie Bell, who explains that while the documentary’s focus is young women, Prax(us) aims to help at-risk youth ages 14-24 of both sexes and all sexual orientations. The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with representatives from the organization itself, along with the Denver Police Department’s vice squad and the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking.

Sliding-scale donations of $8 to $23 are requested at the door, and the event runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bindery is located at 770 22nd Street. For more information, visit www.praxus.org.
