Drone attacks. Assassination. Torture. In America’s War on Terror, these are the tools, and anyone can be designated an enemy with the stroke of a pen. The horrific scope of this endless conflict is documented in Dirty Wars, a film that digs deep into the actions of the Joint Special Operations Command. Based on the work of journalist Jeremy Scahill, the documentary paints a frightening picture of JSOC as a force that operates with few boundaries and even less oversight.

“What’s fascinating about this documentary is that Jeremy Scahill is kind of like this Sam Spade character. He’s trying to uncover this mystery that ends up going all the way to the very, very top,” says Pablo Kjolseth, executive director of Boulder’s International Film Series. “It has a lot of information that is going to be very disturbing for people to realize and wrap their heads around. It will be of interest whether you’re on the right or the left; this is not a partisan film.”

See it at 7 or 9 p.m. in Muenzinger Auditorium on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. Tickets are $7, or $6 for CU students and seniors. For more information, visit internationalfilmseries.com.
