Pretty much every kind of car that was ever worth looking at will be on display at the Wild West Auto Roundup in Golden this afternoon, from a 1913 Stutz Bearcat to some recently modded-out VWs. But even if the gleaming highlights of automotive ingenuity aren’t your thing, chances are there’ll be something there for you.

It’s basically to bring people to downtown Golden,” admits event chair Cheryl Copeland, but it’s still a good ploy: “We have some great shops to visit; we have lots of kids’ games; there’s a trapeze artist down in Parfet Park; we’ve got the Golden Farmers’ Market, which has 45 different garden-related vendors; kayak demonstrations in Clear Creek; fly-fishing demonstrations; even Smokey the Bear will be there.”

McGruff is still unconfirmed. But the centerpiece is the cars, and on that front, the Roundup offers 230 of them, judged in fourteen categories, from People’s Choice to Street Rod, with 26 trophies. The show, which is free and open to the public, runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Washington Street in downtown Golden. For more information, call 303-279-3113 or visit www.2hourvacation.com.
