Maybe we all didn't turn out to be architects or city planners, but there's no denying the fun Lincoln Logs provided to our childhood ingenuity and building dreams. Today's Lincoln Log Throwdown at Schlessman Library aims to capture exactly that, with an adults-only contest of speed and design, utilizing the 104-year-old wooden interlocking logs.

"We thought it would be a fun way to celebrate Presidents' Day," says Becker Parkhurst-Strout, reference librarian at Schlessman, adding that while this is the inaugural edition of the nostalgic toy contest, the library hopes a nice turnout will lead to making it a yearly tradition. To entice potential builders, the winner of the Throwdown will receive a fresh-baked cherry pie, courtesy of the Shoppe.

Bring your building skills to the Schlessman Family Branch, 100 Poplar Street, at 10 a.m.; the contest is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.denverlibrary.org or call 720-865-0000.
