Co-director Sarah Crockarell says the company chose this particular Thomas Middleton-penned play because, although it’s a classic, it has modern sensibilities. “It sounds like Shakespeare,” she says, “but it’s a lot more violent and sexy than most Shakespeare.”
A similarly envelope-pushing dance performance, Fosse Revisited, will go on before the play; it sets dance inspired by Cabaret direc-tor/choreographer Bob Fosse to modern music from Jay-Z.
Both performances take place at the Underdog Bar, in the basement of the Lazy Dog in Boulder, a venue choice that will give the play a creepy feel, Crockarell says. “You should sit there and feel like you’re getting away with something or witnessing things that you’re not supposed to be witnessing,” she says.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m., with performances running through July 22; the Underdog is at 1346 Pearl Street in Boulder. Tickets, $12 general admission and $10 for students, are available at the door, or in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/254596.
