Like many producers, Bluetech (aka Evan Bartholomew) is a classically trained pianist who's also adept at dealing with all the software available for producing tunes these days. Bluetech's music is probably best described as downtempo, though he ventures into the mid-tempo range; his sound is improvisational, ambient, warm and sweeping, mixing in vocals and instrumentation and pulling from dub and psychedelic trance to weave a tapestry. He's released albums as both Evan Bartholomew and Bluetech, and collaborated with KiloWatts as Invisible Allies on the 2010 release Hyperdimensional Animals. Lately, Bluetech's recorded work has been moving toward a more organic sound palette. His most recent release, Rainforest Reverberation, is his way of giving back to the planet: One hundred percent of the proceeds from the album's sales will be donated to organizations that help protect the Amazon rainforest. If you saw Bluetech at his last appearance at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, in February, then you have an idea of what to expect. He'll be joined at Cervantes' on Thursday, September 22, by Phidelity and Orchard Lounge.
