When was the last time you took a walk to the post office or the grocery store? Today’s NE Walk Fest, both a celebration of walking and a learning event focused on two-footed activities, wants you to think twice about how you get around. Put on by the Stapleton Area Transportation Management Association, the day will host more than thirty themed walking trips around northeast Denver, encouraging folks to take to the streets on foot instead of by car.

“People find themselves driving somewhere that might just be a ten-minute walk, and the way our streets are currently laid out, they aren’t necessarily built to support, energize and create a safe experience for all users,” says Jonathon Stalls, founder of event partner Walk2Connect. Stalls says that through neighborhood-awareness walks, history- and literature-themed tours, and business and career coaching workshops happening on foot, Walk Fest activities aim to promote livable, walkable communities.

The second annual NE Walk Fest begins at 9 a.m. on the lawn of the Pauline Robinson Library, 5575 East 33rd Avenue; check-in for themed walks will begin at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to all ages; for more information on activities and walking tours or to sign up in advance, visit newalkfest.com.
