“It’s kind of like a sportscast gone awry — we’re on our toes the entire time,” says Steve O’Neill, co-host of tonight’s edition of SportsCenter-Prov. The monthly, suggestion-driven comedy show takes place on the set of a fictional sports broadcast hosted by talking heads and comedians O’Neill and Jared McBain. Add a game of charades, scripted moments via pre-taped comedy shorts, and a live interview with a local athlete, and you’ve got a winning union of physical activity and physical comedy.

Previous episodes of Sportscenter-Prov have showcased local soccer star MacKenna Stang and University of Colorado wide receiver Derek McCoy. This edition will feature a yet-to-be-named guest who will be asked questions about his or her life and athletic career thus far. From there, O’Neill, McBain and a group of of improv pros will transform the information into a partially true and mostly fictional humorous tale the audience will never forget.

To cap off a truly intramural athletic affair, guests can enjoy orange slices in the lobby, just like your old soccer coach used to serve. Sportscenter-Prov goes down tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa Street, where there will be subsequent installments on the first Tuesday of every month month through September. Tickets are $8 to $10 and can be purchased at the door, by phone at 303-758-4722 or at bovinemetropolis.com.
First Tuesday of every month, 7:30 p.m. Starts: June 3. Continues through Sept. 2, 2014
