It is with great sadness that Fort Collins said an unexpected goodbye to one of the most prominent people in the community. David Andrew Ramirez, affectionately known as "Mexi", suffered a heart attack and passed away at age 28.Mexi is known to most as part of the Road 34 family. He has been at the bar since it opened in 2006. His smile and love of life made him a favorite among any crowd.
He attended St. Michael's High School in Austin then moved to Fort Collins, where he enrolled at Colorado State University.
Mexi was a huge supporter of live and local music. He went out of his way to make bands feel welcome whenever they played at the Road 34 Bike Bar, often purchasing their CDs and sporting their t-shirts. Anyone who knew him was aware that his very favorite musician was Roger Clyne. On one of his travels to Thailand, he brought back a bottle of Mekong for Clyne as a tribute to a lyric in one of his songs.
An avid biker who was always in search of the next adventure, Mexi lived life to the fullest. His loss is one that has not only been felt throughout our community but has stretched across the world, as his light shone bright.
The Fort Collins Memorial Service will be held as a celebration of Mexi's life at the Road 34 Bike Bar on Saturday March 6th at 1 PM.
The David Andrew Ramirez Memorial Fund has been established in Mexi's honor. Donations may be made at www.road34.com to pay for his necessary expenses.
