Hot Congress just dropped a summer sampler with brand new tracks from Vitamins, the Don'ts and Be Carefuls, Hindershot and more, alongside previously released tracks from some of the label's other acts. While a lot of the sampler certainly hits the niche Hot Congress has carved out for itself, there are a few surprises here and there, including some spoken word from Ken Arkind that nails the feeling of the summer of 2001 surprisingly well -- albeit with some vitriol.
The comp starts off with "So Money" by the Don'ts and Be Carefuls, which may very well be the perfect track to start with. There's something about the tune that exemplifies exactly what types of smart, energetic acts Hot Congress has become known for spotlighting. The new Vitamins track, "Vimanas," is a bit of a summer slow-jam, curling itself around a vocal hook and letting the bliss play out like a sunshine-filled afternoon. For its part, the Sun Red's track, "Glitch in Animal Programming," takes a forking path, slowly building up, but never quite exploding as you'd expect it to.
