If you've been itching to learn how to record your music yourself or you just want to hone your skills a bit, here's your chance. Next month, as part of FoCoMX, music producer John Alagia (Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon, Ben Folds) will be hosting a free workshop for budding engineers. To attend, all you have to do is RSVP and show up.

Sponsored by FoCoMA, Beet Street and SpokesBUZZ Fort Collins, the workshop is slated to take place on Saturday, April 9, from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., with a formal presentation by Alagia followed by workshops and demonstrations at the Armory Event Hall.

While Alagia will be providing the spectacle, there will also be plenty of software professionals on hand to provide DIY tips. They'll be demoing home and studio recording options and talking about ways to keep cost down without sacrificing too much in the way of sound quality.

The workshops for the day include a beginner lesson on Ableton Live, an overview of PreSonus Sound Revolution: Getting Major Label Sound on an Independent Budget, and an intermediate to advanced workshop on ProTools. If you're interested in getting a studio up and running, any of these should do the trick in helping you along the way.
