There's something comforting about listening to stories while sitting in a dimly lit venue with the stench of too many bourbons wafting from your mouth. Well, comforting and potentially boring -- it's a difficult balance to keep an audience intrigued by random true stories told by random people. It's a challenge The Narrators, a new monthly series at Paris on the Platte will soon face.
Debuting this Wednesday, The Narrators will follow up on the first Wednesday of every month (we're going to assume the debut is on the wrong day due to some kind of pagan fog eclipsing Paris on the Platte on the 5th of May every year).
Regardles, we're excited to hear a few of the storytellers on the debut show including Roger Green and Sole, along with countless other creative type people who will be striving to spin delightful yarns and enjoyable tales.
As these things tend to go, a theme is offered to the orators, and they're tasked with entertaining the crowd for ten to fifteen minutes. The theme for the first show is "poverty," one we know all too well. We're curious to see what the cunning storytellers come up with: If we hear at least one tale of a Wendy's shower we'll be happy, but we'll keep our minds and ears open for tales of dumpster diving, trash eating and strange jobs. If nothing else maybe we'll hear some hot gossip from members of the Denver scene.
The Narrators premiers this Wednesday, May 12, at 8 p.m. at Paris on the Platte Café and Bar (1553 Platte Street).
