Some of the stereotypes are true: Pretty much everyone is in all black, many are wearing dark and heavy eye make-up and every now and then, the DJ stops a tune with a vertebrae-shattering guitar riff for chants of, "Kill! Kill! Kill!" But it's not some cartoon-like parody like you see in the movies. For the most part, Saturday nights at Milk Bar is just your typical underground dance haven, and, if you're into it, it's one of the best places to find yourself in the company of the city's thriving goth and industrial dance scene.
DJ Slave1 who specializes in dark electro/synthpop/hard industrial sounds handled one half of the downstairs party room, pumping retro '80s sounds by the earful, while Roland spun some tunes for the goth industrial enthusiasts. The dance floor was filled with writhing bodies, twisting and turning themselves into tizzies while mouthing the words to the pounding tracks, when we stopped by this past Saturday night.The bartenders were slinging drinks fast and hard, and the lights were low, when we caught up with frequent party goers Queen and her crew, who said the scene at Milk on Saturdays is "like our 'Cheers'" -- you know, the place where everybody knows your name. DJ Slave1 and Roland kept the fierce tunes coming all night, and the party continued steady until last call. There were even some hula hoops brought into the fray at one point.
