Colorado Craft Beer Week is in full swing, which means Denver venues will be overflowing with beer-related events. But since man cannot live by beer alone, there are plenty of non-brew activities on the culinary calendar. Here's a sampling.
Monday, March 24
Join the brewers from the Wynkoop Brewing Company from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight as they visit the Stapleton Tap House to tap their Barrel-Aged Barleywine. This special English-style Barleywine was aged for a year in old whiskey barrels.
In the fourth round of all-out brewery brawls in the Battle of the Breweries series, Grist Brewing Company takes on Caution: Brewing Co. tonight at Historian's Ale House. The rules of the battle are simple: Each brewery will tap a keg of their choice and the first to blow their keg wins. You can show up and help pick the winner tonight at 5 p.m. -- and maybe win some awesome prizes, too.
Tuesday, March 25
Everyone knows that veggies are an important part of a healthy diet, but it's not always easy -- or fun -- to find a way to prepare them. Cook Street School of Culinary Arts is well aware of this conundrum and is offering a class that will help you learn how to purchase the best fresh vegetables and then prepare them; the course will even teach you how to pickle and store veggies. The Class starts at 6 p.m. at Cook Street and costs $99; for more information visit cookstreet.com.
Wednesday, March 26
Firenze a Tavola below Parisi will be hosting its first Aperi-cena, an evening of appetizers and drinks. Menu items will include wild boar meatballs, truffled fritters, mini calzones, lightly fried seafood, stuffed vegetables and more. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $22; call 303-561-0234 to make reservations.
Thursday, March 27
Improv meets art and beer at Epic Brewing's Draw Off tonight. The Draw Off will take five teams of local comic artists -- Denver Drink & Draw, Squid Works, DEAD Academy, Red Team Go! and Team Wildcard (consisting of last-minute competitors from the audience) -- and put them up against each other in a live drawing competition based on themes suggested by the audience. At the end of the night, Epic will auction off the artworks to benefit Denver Drink and Draw and the Colorado Brewers Guild. The Draw Off runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at Epic, 3001 Walnut Street and admission is free.
Friday, March 28 Crazy Mountain Brewery in Edwards is combining two of our favorite things: Girl Scout Cookies and beer. The brewery is holding a cookie-and-beer pairing that pairs Savannah Smiles with Lava Lake Wit, Trefoils with Crazy Mountain Amber Ale, Samoas with Cara de Luna Black Ale, Tagalongs with Bridge Street Winter Ale and Thin Mints with SnowCat Coffee Stout. Tickets are only $10 and benefit the Girl Scout troops of Eagle County.
