Marisol, the author of The Lady, the Chef and the Courtesan, a sensual, romantic novel that comes complete with recipes, has left landlocked Denver for a stint as a celebrity chef. She's sending daily missives from her temporary home: a cruise ship.

Marseille (or so we thought):

If you’ve been following the news in Europe, then you know there are various strikes at various ports, by fishermen and other port workers who're complaining about the rising price of fuel. This affects my cooking schedule because my recipes have to be changed and so do my classes and demonstrations.

We are not going to be able to stop in Marseille – instead, we’re going to nearby Toulon. But the captain has to get permissions, papers signed, etc, etc., so we’re at sea a little longer. All this means I’m cooking again.

This time I’m making a Spanish dish that doesn’t match our destination since we’re headed to France, but no matter. I’ve learned flexibility is the key. I invoke the name of Thomas Keller and wonder what he would do in my place.

This cooking class turns out to be the best. The god of all chefs is shining a bright star above and the stove works, all the ingredients are on hand (a miracle on a ship), and the guests are happy! -- Marisol
