Let the haters hate. I don't care, because when I eat a sandwich at Quiznos, I like it.
Yeah, Quiznos is a massive chain (although a Colorado-based one) with more than 4,500 mirror-like locations across the U.S and in several other countries. Yes, they've been accused of screwing over their franchisees (a story that just won't die), and yes, they created one of the most annoying ad campaigns ever in the history of annoying ad campaigns (can you say sponge monkeys?).
But damn if their toasted sandwiches don't make me drool. In fact, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had was a brisket one they offered a couple years back. In fact, as a consumer, the only thing I didn't like about Quiznos was the price, typically a buck or two more for a sandwich than the typical deli.
Now that has changed, too, most recently with the addition of the $4 Toasty Torpedo, a skinnier-than-normal twelve-inch-plus sandwich on ciabatta bread wrapped in a sleeve that makes it compact and easy to eat, according to Quiznos, "on the go."
Let the haters hate, I say, and the eaters eat.
The Pesto Turkey Torpedo I tried (there are five variations on the menu) was very good. Not fantastic, not remotely bad, just perfectly palatable, forgettable and satisfying at the same time, sort of like an episode of Law & Order. It had just the right amount of thinly sliced turkey, mozzarella, lettuce and tomato, along with a mellow pesto and, apparently, a red wine vinaigrette. And, yes, it was very easy to eat, in its handy sleeve.
At $4, that's hard to beat.
