Who knew? It's National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, and to mark the August occasion, Woody Creek Bakery & Cafe, a Colorado company, is giving a free chocolate chip cookie to anyone who visits one of the seven stores along the Front Range today. This is the third time Woody Creek has offered the deal, and it's planning on making this the biggest give-way yet -- handing out an estimated 10,000 free cookies. "We always receive an incredible response from the community," said Bruce Pelligra, director of operations, in announcing the deal. "People line up for their free cookie. Last year, we baked an actual ton of cookie dough at all our stores combined."

Those stores include two locations at Denver International Airport, as well as spots downtown at 1001 16th Street, in Boulder on the mall, at the Denver Tech Centert, in Park Meadows and at Southlands.

In honor of the holiday, Woody Creek is also launching a Chocolate Chip Cookie Milkshake, made with chunks of fresh-baked cookies. The shakes, however, are not free.
